The purpose of this meeting was to receive input on a proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment submitted by residents to both permit and regulate Short Term Rentals (STR) within our community.

Person Story of Property Improvement
(Excerpts and brief summary)

Presenter, Eric, shared his story of purchasing and completely renovating their family's cottage.

Not all properties are a problem.

Many are family cottages and only shared for a short portion of the year.

No one wants problem visitors and common-sense guidelines can help protect everyone.

This property has allowed my family to give our four boys the cottage experience we didn't have growing up.

In order to make this happen, we knew we would have to purchase a property that needed work. It was a long hard road but so worth it. We got to teach our boys the value of hard work, and the satisfaction of building and fixing something in disrepair. This property is extra special because we rebuilt it with our boys.

We respect and care for our cottage and demanded that same respect from our guests. Propper management and screening can ensure that our property and our community is protected.

We did not accept every applicant. We screened to ensure that each visitor was compatible with our property and aware of our expectations.

As a result, we have had zero negative experiences and zero negative reviews. Our boys get to experience having a cottage in Northern Michigan, we get to share this experience with others, and a seriously blighted property has been restored.

We do not currently have our cottage listed but look forward to the township completing this process so that we can welcome back our guests. We do not accept every applicant. We screen to ensure that each visitor is compatible with our property and aware of our expectations. This ordinance can help guide others in our community to do the same.
